Celebrities Who Live And Vacation In Muskoka

The Muskoka area has been a popular destination for eager vacationers for a very long time… and for good reason! There’s so much to see and do, from boating on the numerous lakes to exploring the area’s hiking trails. And not just in the summertime! Muskoka offers activities year-round, which is also why many have decided to purchase property in this beautiful region.

But Muskoka is not only for nearby Southern Ontarians who want to escape the city, but also a fashionable choice for celebrities from all over the world. Clearly, the beauty of the Muskoka area cannot be denied, and with its luxurious waterfront properties, it’s to be expected that this region would attract some high-profile guests!

Canadian Celebrities

No one knows Canadian natural beauty more than Canadians themselves. From the mountains, forest, and sea of the west coast to the maritime provinces’ charm in the east, the wide stretch of Canada offers so much to discover…. And in the heart of it all is Muskoka!

So it’s no wonder, with all its fame, that celebrities have chosen to vacation in this stunning region. Stratford-native Justin Bieber had previously owned a home in Muskoka (on its own private island no less!) but is now just a passionate renter.

While other Canadian celebrities such as Drake, Shawn Mendes, or Ryan Reynolds have yet to be spotted in this area, actor and comedian Martin Short has been seen around Lake Rosseau, whilst Jim Carrey spends time east of Muskoka, just outside of Bancroft.

International Celebrities

The unique atmosphere and unparalleled beauty of the Muskoka area has drawn the attention of international celebrities, as well. Actors, directors, models, athletes, and others speak highly of this gorgeous region.

Soccer star (now retired) David Beckham has posted pictures of his time in Muskoka with his family, alongside other notable famous people, including actor Mark Wahlberg and former Maple Leafs player Tie Domi. From the photos, this trio (however eccentric) seemed to enjoy themselves greatly.

Writer and director Steven Spielberg has been known to visit Muskoka on a regular basis and owns property in the region, much like actor Tom Hanks. The latter has a relatively famous waterfront luxury estate, often featured in architectural publications. Model Cindy Crawford and her family, including daughter Kaia Gerber, also have a Muskoka cottage located on the waterfront, and seem to enjoy a lot of outdoor activities, such as swimming and boating. Previously, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were long-time Muskoka residents, however they have recently sold their property.

Celebrities Of The Past

How long have the rich and famous been flocking to Muskoka you may ask? A very long time. Academy Award-winning actor Clark Gable, star of It Happened One Night (1934) and Gone with the Wind (1939), frequented Bigwin Island in the Lake of Bays region. Frankly, my dear, there’s nothing like Muskoka.

Other celebrities rumored to have loved the area include Louis Armstrong, the Kennedys, and Fred Astaire. Novelist Earnest Hemingway, who had once been a writer for The Toronto Star, also visited the Muskoka area.
