Dwight, Ontario Community Information

Dwight is also the northern corner of a triangle formed by the towns Dorset and Baysville, encompassing the various bodies of water that make up the Lake of Bays. Dorset is approximately 15 minutes away to the south, the town of Huntsville is 20 minutes away to the west, and bracebridge is around 40 minutes to the southwest.

The journey between Toronto and Dwight is around 2 hours, or a little over 200 kilometres.

Dwight falls within Ontario’s popular cottage country, which lies on a geological formation known as the Canadian Shield. This vast area is characterized by rocky outcroppings, dense forests, and thousands of lakes. As such, it is popular with vacationers who want to get away from it all and enjoy Canada’s great outdoors.

Dwight is a particularly ideal location for this due partly to the access it has to the Lake of Bays, and the many parks and preserves within a short distance.

For a start, Dwight has its own sandy beach: Dwight Beach near the town centre, with a pier for swimming and enjoying the water. The town also has a farmer’s market, gift shops, a takeout dining spot, and outdoor outfitters like Langford Canoe and Back Country Tours.

Dwight often bills itself as the “Gateway to Algonquin Park” as the popular destination is a relatively short distance to the northeast. In fact, the west gate for the park is less than 20 minutes away along Highway 60.

There are also a number of other parks and outdoor attractions closer to Dwight, like the Echo Valley Nature and Bike Trails, J. Albert Bauer Provincial Park, and the Oxtongue River Ragged Falls Provincial Park.
