Discover the Area of MacTier

Part of MacTier sits on the shores of Stewart Lake - a relatively small body of water compared to the much larger Muskoka Lakes system a short distance east. The expansive Lake Joseph is only 2.5 kilometres away, including many marinas and bays for easy access to boats.

The region within which MacTier is situated is geologically known as the Canadian Shield, an area defined by shallow bedrock, often breaking through the thin layer of soil into rugged rock outcroppings, surrounded by hundreds of glacial lakes and many islands.

Taking the Trans-Canada Highway north from Toronto, MacTier is accessible via Lake Joseph Road, and then High Street after a few minutes drive. Most of the town is located along this street, with a rail line running in parallel. A few side streets complete the town layout, most of which are lined with suburban homes on relatively large plots.

Foot’s Bay is approximately 5 minutes southeast, and Bala is a further 15 minutes past that.

Discover MacTier Real Estate

MacTier has a number of residential homes within the town itself. Some of these are early-to-mid century traditional homes, with wood or vinyl siding, conservancies, attic rooms, gambrel roofs, and dormer windows. Others are custom suburban mid-century homes in red brick and vinyl siding, with decks and large windows.

There are also some more modern constructions, usually built according to neo-rustic coastal or cabin styles. These homes tend to incorporate fully finished basements and large decks for enjoying the views.

Most properties are open, without fences, and on-street parking. In many places you can see the rocks of the Canadian Shield breaking through the soil.

Further out, the MacTier area offers many of the same property opportunities that bring real estate buyers to Ontario’s Cottage Country. Specifically, the many wooded and coastal cabins, cottages, and lakeside homes. With these properties you can enjoy views of the water, as well as private docks or boathouses.

Keep a look out for empty lots or undeveloped land to build a custom cabin or house of your dreams.
