Dorset is situated near the intersection of Highway 35 and 117, and across an inlet into Trading Bay of the Lake of Bays. A bridge at the middle of Dorset crosses the divide between Big and Little Trading Bay.
Nearby towns include Dwight (north), Baysville (west), Pine Springs (south), and Carnarvon (further south).
