There are 80 lakes that make up the Muskoka Lakes area, and many communities as well. Each one is unique and offers charming cottage living. The three largest are Bala, Port Carling, and Windermere.
Some of the other communities in the area include Baysville, Foot’s Bay, Milford Bay, and Minett. Connecting all of these communities are year round service roads, as well as hiking and biking trails, and the 80 lakes that make up the Muskoka Lakes.
Muskoka Lakes is known for its cranberry production, and every year the community of Bala celebrates the week after Thanksgiving with the Bala Cranberry Festival. Cranberries aren’t the only thing the area produces either -- the Muskoka Lakes Winery makes award winning wine, and the tours are a great way to spend the day.
The Port Carling Winter Festival is fun for the entire family, with fireworks, dog shows, curling bonspiels, and other snowy activities.
